A 26-year-old woman died after taking a 75-foot plunge from a walkway aboard the Queen Mary into frigid waters of the Long Beach Harbor on Monday night.

A spokesman for the Long Beach Fire Department reported that firefighters received a call around 8:35p.m. on Monday that a woman had fallen from the Queen Mary and that another man jumped from the vessel in attempts to rescue her.  The 40-year-old man, reportedly the woman’s boyfriend, was taken to a hospital for treatment of hypothermia, and the woman was declared deceased at the hospital after arriving in critical condition.

The DailyMail reports that 26-year-old victim had been drinking and lost her balance, causing her to fall into the freezing waters.  Eyewitnesses said that the woman was arguing with her boyfriend before the fall took place.  Police are ruling the incident as an accident, thus far.

The Queen Mary ocean liner no longer sails and is now stationary at the Long Beach harbor where it has been converted into a hotel and museum.
