USCG Ends Search for Missing Celebration Cruise Passenger
A 47-year-old Canadian woman vanished from the Bahamas Celebration cruise ship this week while it was traveling from Freeport, Grand Bahama Island to the Port of Palm Beach in Florida. The U.S. Coast Guard has now suspended its search for the reportedly missing woman, who has not yet been identified publicly. The USCG’s search ensued for a total of 84 hours and covered an almost 19,000 square kilometer area.
The woman’s boyfriend, also not publicly identified yet, notified Celebration Cruise Line officials to her disappearance early Wednesday morning as the ship arrived near West Palm Beach. The ship’s captain then alerted the Coast Guard Sector Miami where search and rescue coordinators initiated the hunt. Crew members onboard the vessel also perused the cruise ship twice for the missing woman without victory – not even a trace.
According to the woman’s boyfriend, her last known whereabouts were at a gift shop at about 1 a.m., where he left her to go to an onboard casino before returning to their cabin. When he finally cashed out and made his way to their room, she was not there. After waking up and she still had not returned, he panicked and this is when he alerted officials.
The Coast Guard believes there is a possibility she went overboard. Again, after sea and air searches, they have ended their mission as of Thursday night.
