Shipyard Labor Strike Delays Launch of Oceania Cruise's Newest Ship
Oceania Cruise’s new ship, the 1,250-passenger Riviera, has had its launch delayed by three weeks due to labor strikes in the Italian Fincantieri shipyard that is responsible for building the vessel. This will be the second time that the Riviera’s debut has been pushed back, the first time being only a 10-day difference.
The ship’s maiden voyage was set for April 24, 2012 and has now been pushed back to May 16, 2012. The 10-day sailing adventure will begin in Venice. Two cruises scheduled between these dates have been canceled.
Any guests affected by the strike-inflicted change will be offered the option to rebook or get a full refund. Rebooks will also be rewarded a cruise credit from 250-1,000 dollars, depending on the class originally purchased.
