Three men found on cargo ship
2 captured, 1 discovered dead
Three stowaways were found aboard a cargo ship from the Dominican Republic that arrived in the Port of Charleston, SC on Saturday.
The M/V MSC DEBRA left the Dominican Republic Wednesday and arrived at the Wando Welch Terminal at noon on Saturday. The three men took the three day trip in a container with a hole cut through the top to allow them to breathe and crawl in and out.
The men were seen climbing out of a container and Customs Border Protection and the U.S. Coast Guard were notified.
Crew from the ship caught one man and Coast Guard captured another from the water after he jumped off the ship. The third man was found dead in a container. The man’s identity and cause of death have not yet been released.
