Pirates seize 2 ships in less than 24 hours
Tuesday afternoon (May 11) a Bulgarian flagged ship, MV PANEGA (pictured) was hijacked in the Gulf of Aden 100 miles east of Aden. The tanker was carrying a crew of 15 Bulgarians and was in route to India when she was attacked.
Early Wednesday morning the Liberian flagged, Greek owned, ELENI P was hijacked 250 miles off the coast of Oman. The bulk carrier is carrying a crew of 26 (23 Filipinos, 2 Romanian and 1 Indian) and was in route to Kandla, India when pirates attacked. It was reported that the pirates fired shots, but the crew remains unharmed.
