‘DAM999’, produced by UAE based BizTV Network and directed by Sohan Roy, a Naval Architect by profession, is being released worldwide on the 24th of November. The 3D movie about a dam disaster, is touted as a movie ‘for the mariners from mariners’. With the main cast of the movie playing characters who are mariners, a good portion of the movie has been shot on location on a VLCC anchored in the Middle east waters.

The makers believe that the movie, which is releasing in 3D, will cast a favourable light on the sea going mariners and their academic and professional life. The activities and technical knowhow needed for a ship crew are depicted in the movie, which traces the life of a Master and his Chief Engineer on a VLCC. One of the highlights in the movie is said to be the depiction of a life-like fire incident in the engine room of a tanker!

The Library of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has added the screenplay of ‘DAM999’ as part of its Permanent Core Collection, which is accessible to students, film makers, writers, actors and others from the field of cinema, for the purpose of research. ‘DAM999’ is the first movie screenplay from UAE to enter the Academy’s Library even before its theatrical release anywhere around the globe.

It is a movie with a social cause which describes the hazards dams can cause and creates awareness among the masses about the impending dangers of a dam collapse, if not attended on time.

This multi starrer international venture has an ensemble cast starring Rajit Kapur, Joshua Fredric Smith, Linda Arsenio, Gary Richardson, Jaala Pickering, Ashish Vidyarthi, Vinay Rai, Vimala Raman, Megha Burman and Jineet Rath.

The movie will be released in three regional languages in India along with English. The other credits of the movie include international experts Eric Sherman as Project Consultant; Rob Tobin as the Script Doctor and Uzma Xina Kang as the Casting Director of ‘DAM 999’ along with an abundance of talented technicians from the Indian film industry.
