Crane Collapse Kills Five at Samsung Heavy Industries

[Brief] On Monday afternoon, a giant tower crane at the Samsung Heavy Industries yard in Geoje collided with another crane and collapsed, killing five contract workers and seriously injuring four others. 

Eight to ten addditional workers sustained minor injuries, and responders continued the search for survivors late Monday. It was the yard's most serious accident in years. 

The crane collapsed onto the deck of a new oil platform that Samsung is building for Total's Norwegian subsidiary. Work on the platform has been temporarily suspended while investigators examine the scene. Total told media that none of its employees were hurt in the collapse, and that it does not yet know the extent of any damage or delivery delay the accident may have caused.
