ClassNK Releases New Rule Amendments

ClassNK is pleased to announce that the release of the latest amendments to the ClassNK Rules.

As a leading classification society, ClassNK constantly reevaluates its Rules and Guidances in order to incorporate the latest R & D results and feedback from damage investigations, as well as to address changes in international conventions and respond to requests from the maritime industry.

As part of these ongoing efforts, a number of new amendments, including the following, were incorporated into the ClassNK Rules on June 30, 2011.

 

  • Amendments to relevant requirements to prevent cracks in the lower parts of bulwark stays based on the results of research and development.
  • Amendments to incorporate preventive measures for the occurrence of cracking in the cargo hatch corners of the strength decks of bulk carriers based on feedback from damage investigations.
  • Inclusion of provisions for the performance and installation of Bridge Navigational Watch Alarm Systems (BNWAS) in order to address recent changes made to the SOLAS Convention.
  • Establishment of new rules for crane vessels, fire fighting vessels, offshore supply vessels and other workboats in order respond to requests received from the maritime industry.
