Chaffe McCall Attorney Named President of WISTA's New Orleans Chapter
Adelaida Ferchmin, Partner in Admiralty Law of Chaffe McCall, L.L.P. Attorneys at Law, was recently elected President of the Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA) New Orleans Chapter. Ferchmin joined the organization in 2006 and has been an active member since 2008.
“WISTA has given me the opportunity to meet an incredible number of successful and inspiring women involved in the maritime industry,” said Ferchmin. "It provides a network of like-minded people I can reach out to for advice and information on a number of maritime business and technical issues. As president, I look forward to working with the New Orleans chapter to grow our membership and make the WISTA network even stronger in the coming years.”
WISTA is an international organization for women in management positions involved in the maritime transportation business and related trades. WISTA was formed in London in 1974 by a group of womenbrokers involved in the tanker market. The organization currently hasover 1,300 individual members worldwide and 29 national associations from the United States to Singapore. In the U.S. there are currently eightregional subchapters including New Orleans. WISTA aims to provide educational and networking opportunities for women in a traditionally male industry.
WISTA membership includes over 240 maritime professionals from 20 states, representing all facets of the maritime industry - including ship owners, operators, brokers, bankers, insurance professionals, attorneys, analysts, and government officials, to name a few. WISTA USA is the largest of any National WISTA Association (NWA), and is a prominent link in the network of over 1,300 women who participate in WISTA worldwide.

Ferchmin’s practice at Chaffe McCall is defense based and consists of Longshore and Harbor Worker's Compensation Act cases including defending employers and vessel owners in collision cases as well as personal injury, charter party disputes and cargo dispute cases.
In addition to WISTA, Ferchmin is a member of Junior League of New Orleans and frequents the Greater New Orleans Women’s Breakfast.
Ferchmin was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico in 1978. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations with a concentration in Eastern European Affairs from Tufts University in 2000. Ferchmin graduated from Tulane Law School in May 2005. While attending Tulane she was a member of Alianza del Derecho and the Tulane Journal of International and ComparativeLaw. Ferchmin is fluent in Spanish, Polish and Croatian.
