During a shore excursion in the Mexican seaside resort of Puerto Vallarta, 22 Carnival Cruise Lines passengers were robbed of their valuables and passports. The passengers were robbed on Thursday during a guided trail excursion after leaving the Carnival Splendor ship.

Cruise officials released a statement on Saturday, although it did not provide specific details of the robbery. It did state that there were no injuries involved with the incident, as well as that the guided tour has been suspended for future sailings until further notice.

Other alleged reports claim that the tour bus was taken over by masked gunmen, as the passengers were being shuttled from a jungle nature hike back to the port. The assailants got away with items including cameras, money and watches.

Carnival is working closely with the affected guests and will reimburse them for the lost valuables. They are also assisting with replacing the lost passports or other identification items. This incident occurred just two weeks after the U.S. Department of State issued a travel warning to avoid 14 Mexican states, including the state of Jalisco where Puerto Vallarta is located.

No suspects have been found as of yet.
