NASSCO Plans Layoffs
NASSCO blames downturn in shipbuilding for commercial and government projects
The largest commercial shipbuilder in the US is planning to layoff at least 900 layoffs due to the slump in building slump in maritime industry.
General Dynamics NASSCO has sent letters to about a fourth of its 4,100 workers about possible layoffs in July. NASSCO may lay off about half of its 500 contractors as well.
According to Karl Johnson, Director of Corporate Communications, the state of the economy in the maritime industry as well as the downturn in government shipbuilding and US Navy ship repair.
