Fishing Vessel, Cargo Ship Collide in L.I. Waters
The Coast Guard reported that a cargo ship and a commercial fishing vessel collided 11 miles south of New York’s Jones Beach.
One crew member on the fishing vessel suffered non life-threatening injuries. Two others were being examined.
The Coast Guard says it began a search-and-rescue effort after getting a “Mayday” call from the fishing vessel, the 72-foot-long Atlantic Queen, at about 3:30 a.m. Friday.
It collided with a bulk carrier cargo ship in excess of 600 feet long that had just left New York. The cargo vessel was identified as the BALDOR, registered in the Marshall Islands.
