Bangladesh: 16 Fishermen Missing in Bangladesh Pirate Attack

Dec 8, 2009 — According to this report, maritime pirates violently attacked a boat of fishermen off Bangladesh's southern coast last Friday (12/4), and 16 of the victims are missing.

Somalia: Suicide Bombers Targeting Mogadishu Airport and Seaport

Dec 7, 2009 — Somali security forces are on alert for suicide bombers in the capital of Mogadishu following last week's deadly attack on a hotel in which at least 22 people died including two ministers of parliament. A police spokesman speaking with reporters identified two suspected targets as the Mogadishu seaport and airport. Reuters quotes the source as saying "Our intelligence reports say al Shabaab has prepared two suicide bombers in high ranking police and military uniforms."

Egypt: Two Ferries Collide in Nile River

Dec 5, 2009 — Two ferries collided Friday in the northern part of Egypt's Nile River. Initial reports said that dozens were missing from the more than 50 passengers on board at the time of the accident. However, Egyptian police officials have told AFP that the search and rescue operation is over, there are no deaths and 19 people were rescued.

CBP to Unveil New Predator Maritime Variant

Dec 4, 2009 — Next week, U.S. Customs and Border Protection's Office of Air and Marine will unveil its maritime variant (PDF) of the Predator B unmanned surveillance system (UAS). CBP will deploy the first of its sea-equipped drones, known as "Guardians", to the Caribbean and the second to the Gulf of Mexico.

Human Smuggling Boat Intercepted Off Southern California

Dec 4, 2009 — Federal agents on Wednesday intercepted a small boat carrying 20 illegal immigrants about 14 miles off the coast near La Jolla, California. The driver of the boat was arrested as the suspected smuggler, and the 20 illegals on board were turned over to the Border Patrol.
