On Wednesday 12 crewmen were rescued by the Philippine navy after pirates hijack their barge and tugboat off Borneo Island.

Philippine officials say that pirates seized the Malaysian barge and tugboat from its crew on Friday, while en route to Indonesia where they were scheduled to load iron ore for transport to Davao City.

Officials say the pirates sailed to Celebes Sea, between Borneo and the Philippines where on Monday they dumped the crew, leaving them with a small rubber raft. The twelve men were found off the southern Philippines Tuesday by government militiamen manning an outpost overlooking the sea.

The men suffered only minor injuries including dehydration and are being treated at a hospital on the southern Philippine island of Mindanao.
