Video: USS Carl Vinson with South Korean Warships

Published May 5, 2017 9:31 PM by The Maritime Executive

[Brief] On Wednesday, the U.S. Navy posted new video footage of the carrier USS Carl Vinson and her escorts accompanied by two Republic of Korea destroyers, the Sejong the Great and Yang Manchun. U.S. Pacific Command has extended the Vinson’s tour by 30 days and redeployed her to the Sea of Japan, part of an attempt to deter North Korea from further nuclear and ballistic missile tests.

Vinson’s later-than-expected arrival in the region sparked a minor controversy: in mid-April, South Korean and American media sources reported that she was under way towards the Korean Peninsula when in fact she was sailing south into the Indian Ocean.
