Greek Oil Tanker Seized off Coast of Nigeria
On July 16, the Aegean Star tanker was hijacked by armed pirates 30 miles off the coast of Nigeria taking the 20 crewmembers hostage, Greek Coast Guard reports.
A port authority official stated that the oil tanker belonging to the Endeavour Marine Agency was hijacked Saturday the 16th of July, 30 nautical miles off the Nigerian coast.
The Greek-owned, Liberia- flagged Aegean Star had set sail from Ghana, and was travelling towards Benin prior to being hijacked.
The port official added that there is no information regarding the state of the 20 crewmembers, or whether there was cargo aboard the Aegean Star.
