Hovertrans Develops Unique Heavy Lift Hoverbarge

The company will debut its hoverbarge system at the Offshore Technology Conference in Houston-May 3-6, 2010

Hovertrans Solutions Pte. Ltd. Has developed an amphibious ‘hoverbarge’ that is capable of carrying thousands of tons in payload over swamps, wetlands, tundra, ice and shallow water. It also creates new possibilities for oil and gas exploration and remote field development.

What is significant about the “hoverbarge” is that it only exerts about 1psi ground pressure and hovers above its environment thereby minimizing an environmental footprint.

Hovertrans Solutions is a division of Singapore Technologies Marine Ltd (ST Marine), which also owns VT Halter Marine shipyards in Mississippi.

Hovertrans developed the hoverbarges ranging from 50 tons to 400 tons. They are constructed from specially designed pontoons with a modular skirt and lift fan system.

The system can operate inside previously difficult to access areas, and it can trucked to the location and assembled on-site. This enables the hoverrbarge access to inland areas such as lakes, rivers and wetlands. Additionally, the mobilization and de-mobilization costs are significantly reduced thereby offering a more cost effective system to move and operate.
