Dominican Republic: U.S. Coast Guard Repatriates 13 Dominicans

(U.S. Coast Guard) "The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Ocracoke repatriated 13 Dominicans to Cabo Engano, Dominican Republic, Tuesday afternoon following an at-sea interdiction by Caribbean Border Interagency Group partners Monday."

Yemen: Navy Intel Warns Mariners of Al-Qaeda Threat Near Yemen Coast

Mar 22, 2010 — The U.S. Navy's Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) on March 10, 2010 posted this US Maritime Administration (MARAD) advisory (PDF) to mariners traveling in the Bab-al-Mandeb Strait, Red Sea, and the Gulf of Aden along the coast of Yemen, alerting them to the potential that al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) may be planning attacks on commercial maritime vessels.

It is important to note that the ONI says that the advisory is not "piracy-specific" - in reference to Somali pirates operating in the region whose goal is to extort money from ship owners. Instead the warning is specifically about terrorism.

United Kingdom: IMO Marine Environment Protection Committee Meets in London

Mar 22, 2010 — The International Maritime Organization's (IMO) Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) opens its 60th session at its Headquarters in London today (3/22). The 2010 meetings will last until March 26, and will focus on issues including the reduction of greenhouse gases (GHGs) from international shipping.
