Imtech Marine (division Schiffbau-/Dockbauttechnik) has provided the German Navy vessel Einsatzgruppenversorger (EGV) Bonn with engineering, material delivery, installation and commissioning of the innovative HVAC-system, the hot and chilled water plant, the refrigerating plant for provision- and waste-cooling as well as the chilled water units. The EGV has been ordered by the German Federal Ministry of Defence in December 2008 and has been delivered to The Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) on 26 June 2013.
Imtech Marine implemented a number of notable innovations for the German Navy on board the EGV. In the fresh air supply of the modular air filtration unit for example, Imtech implemented a humidity control with a compulsory emptying of chillers and heaters in case of freeze alarm, in order to protect the system.
In the operating theatre of the military hospital on board, however, a laminar flow ceiling has been installed. This has hardly been done on board a ship. “As in a normal land based hospital, the laminar flow ceiling makes sure that there is no air swirling right above of the patient. Therefore, no germs can intrude into the wounds of the patient.” states Mathias Lohse, Imtech Marine project manager of EGV Bonn. Apart from that, for the first time on board a naval vessel, Imtech Marine constructed and built the air conditioning system and the ductwork on the basis of VDI 6022 - which is usually only applicable for the onshore area, not for vessels - and on the hygienic regulations involved. The cabin control system Imtech implemented on board the EGV raised the comfort of the crew substantially - with regard to temperature, acoustics and ease of use.
The main purpose of the EGV is the worldwide logistic and medical support of task forces. With a length of about 174 meters, a width of 24 meters and a tonnage of 20.240 t, it is the biggest ship of the German Navy and supplies task forces with water, food, drinks, fuel and ammunition. The ship is configured for replenishment at sea (RAS). The disposal of waste, black water and empty ammunition also belong to the functions of the ship. Two helicopters can be accommodated on board the EGV.
