Introduced at this year’s Seawork International, Dometic Marine’s rugged and professional-grade DuraSea Rooftop air conditioner is now available with a heating upgrade.
Built to endure harsh marine environments, the 12,000 BTU system is the ideal combined cooling and heating solution for patrol boats, house boats and a range of other vessels.
Heating, ventilation and air conditioning specialist Dometic Marine has designed the new DuraSea Rooftop with the heating option so that it can easily be retro-fitted. The over 1.5 kilowatt heater (at 240 volts) is simply added to the existing unit, which is installed into any horizontal deck or rooftop location to cool or heat the helm or cabin directly below it. The new upgraded version is ideal for smaller commercial boats and workboats, and particularly suited for Nordic and Northern European regions.
“Following the successful launch of our DuraSea Rooftop air conditioner last year, we are excited to launch the new DuraSea with the heating option for vessels operating in varied climates,” said Paul Hickinbotham, Director of Sales & Operations, Dometic Marine.
“As with the original DuraSea Rooftop, it is ideally suited for operators of smaller commercial vessels such as patrol boats, who may be seeking a system to support specialist applications.
“Simply installed in the roof to provide cooling or heating directly below the unit, the DuraSea’s rugged components feature a revolutionary e-coating to ensure exceptional protection from salt air and sunlight for a high-performance and durable solution.”
Removing the need to run air ducts or plumbing throughout the vessel’s interior, the sturdy DuraSea Rooftop products feature specially coated corrosion-resistant components to offer heavy duty cooling and heating, even in harsh marine conditions. Strong L-brackets ensure the motor, compressor and evaporator are uniquely linked to secure the system during vigorous motion and provide vibration-free operation.
Providing effective cooling of areas up to 24 cubic metres, the DuraSea Rooftop is ideally suited to above-deck applications such as a wheelhouse. The underside of the unit, accessible from the interior cabin, contains the thermostat and fan controls as well as the return-air vent and two supply-air vents that blow in opposite directions for increased capability. For different levels of cooling or heating, the high-performance fan has three-speeds and can be switched between cooling/heating mode and ventilation-only mode.
Weighing only 103lbs (46.72kg), the system is robust and strong with a top plate made of 0.40 galvanized steel and powder-coated base pan which is 15% thicker than other models.
