The company is taking part in two tenders for the South African Navy, and has selected the CostFact system to cover its calculation demands.

Southern African Shipyards, based in Durban, South Africa, is the largest shipyard in southern Africa and provides complete in-house marine solutions through ship building, ship repair, naval maintenance and oil gas.

Currently, Southern African Shipyards is taking part in two tenders for the South African Navy, which have been rated among the largest projects in the last decade. To ensure the tenders have the most cost-efficient solutions, Southern African Shipyards decided to implement a cost management system.

After the evaluation of different systems, Southern African Shipyards selected the German solution, " CostFact". CostFact was specially developed for the maritime industry and in close co-operation with several of Europe's leading shipyards, which means a number of best-practice methods have been incorporated into the system, covering all of a shipyard's calculation demands.

Besides the internal acceleration and improvement of the costing processes, Southern African Shipyards expects, from the use of CostFact, the capability to identify the design solutions which fulfil the requirements of the South African Navy at the lowest cost.

The utilization of CostFact is supported by the costing experts of 6Sigma Naval Architects, from Cape Town. 6Sigma acts as the sole sales representative for CostFact in Africa and offers consulting services in implementing and using the CostFact software solution.
