Scholarships Presented to Mariners for Maritime Day
This Sunday (May 22) is Maritime Day. Last year The Propeller Club of Port Everglades Charitable Foundation and AMO came together to cover the textbook Expenses for students at the Maritime Magnet School. The Propeller Club of Port Everglades Charitable Foundation also donated to the Massachusetts Maritime Academy Scholarship fund.
This year The Propeller Club of Port Everglades Charitable Foundation was able help some recent graduates of the Maine Maritime Acadamy. M/V Isla Bella Captain Andy Mayher, and Chief Engineer Matthew Grose both received $1000 toward their studies.
New York Maritime Graduate Jerry Pannell, STAR Center Director of Training, also received $1000. A fourth donation will be awarded to Captain Harry Bolton once California Maritime’s training ship Golden Bear arrives in Port Everglades June 1.
The ceremony was held on AMO’s Star Center. Twenty-two American Merchant Marine Veterans were in attendance.
