Global Xpress Top of the Agenda for Satellite 2016
– Inmarsat will be highlighting its latest technologies and services, including the benefits of its cutting edge Global Xpress (GX) worldwide constellation, at Satellite 2016, the leading and largest global forum for satellite communications.
The past 12-months have been a strategically important period for the FTSE-100 satellite communications company. Last year, Inmarsat launched the final two satellites required to complete global coverage for the GX constellation. Global ‘switch-on’ of the Ka-band service was achieved in December 2015, enabling Inmarsat to be the only company able to deliver high-speed, high-volume broadband services, seamlessly across the world.
During 2016, market-specific, GX-powered services will continue to be rolled-out and the company aims to have achieved an annual revenue run-rate for GX of $500 million by the end of 2020, the fifth anniversary of the introduction of globally available commercial GX services. Last week, Inmarsat confirmed the intention to launch its fourth GX satellite, Inmarsat-5 F4 (‘I-5 F4’), in the latter part of 2016.
Elsewhere, the company has also made further strategic announcements, which ensure its place as the leading provider of mobile satellite communications services on land, sea or air. At the end of last year, Inmarsat confirmed its long-term commitment to delivering advanced L-band services with the announcement that Airbus will build the first two satellites in its sixth generation, Inmarsat-6 constellation.
The first Airbus-built, dual-payload satellites, featuring both L-band and Ka-band, represent a step change in the capabilities and capacity of Inmarsat’s L-band services and will be capable of supporting a new generation of more advanced services. The Ka-band co-payload adds depth to the global breadth of the unique capabilities of the GX constellation, and will deliver incremental revenue opportunities for the minimum 15-year design life of the satellite.

As well as GX, Satellite 2016 delegates who visit the Inmarsat booth 513 will be able to learn more about the company’s wide range of products and services, which include:
•IsatPhone 2, Inmarsat’s new-generation handheld satellite phone, which ensures that users can stay connected and safe in the most extreme and remote locations. IsatPhone 2 features a robust handset, unrivalled battery life, outstanding voice quality and the high reliability for which Inmarsat is renowned.
•IsatHub enables the use of smartphones, tablets and other connected devices to seamlessly talk, text, access the internet and use apps, independent of cellular and fixed networks.
•Cobham’s Explorer 5075GX is a rugged and portable auto-acquire Fly-Away system configured specifically for operation on the Inmarsat GX network. The terminal is configured for commercial Ka-band operations and includes a fully integrated iDirect Core Module. The user-friendly design allows operators with little satellite experience to access GX services within minutes, anywhere around the globe.
•Aviator UAV 200, developed by Cobham SATCOM, is the world’s smallest and lightest Inmarsat Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) satcom solution. The 1.45kg Aviator UAV 200 is redefining UAV satcom connectivity by integrating all components into one compact lightweight unit. The new system delivers Inmarsat Class 4 SwiftBroadband services in a low-SWAP package, which is 76 per cent lighter than existing comparable products on the market.
•Fleet Media is an innovative maritime entertainment solution, which uses Inmarsat’s satellite connectivity to download the latest in Hollywood movies, international films, sports and TV shows to merchant vessels anywhere in the world. Fleet Media enables crew members access to hundreds of hours of on-demand content which can be watched on a laptop, computer or an iOS or Android smart device via Wi-Fi or physical network connection.
•BGAN HNS9211, manufactured by Hughes Network Systems, is designed to provide high performance mobile satellite connectivity, even in the most demanding environments. The Hughes 9211-HDR is the world’s smallest and lightest Inmarsat BGAN HDR-capable terminal.
•L-TAC is a robust, low-cost beyond-line-of-sight (BLOS) mobile communications for a broad range of government users. It delivers a 'UHF and VHF-like' tactical satellite capability for use with existing military and commercial off-the-shelf radios by approved government customers.
A number of Inmarsat executives will also be speaking and participating in round-table discussions and Q&A sessions at the show.
