Samskip Van Dieren Multimodal Expands Rail Service in Sweden

As from the 2nd of May, the intermodal network of Samskip Van Dieren Multimodal will be expanded, with a shuttle service between Duisburg (D) and Älmhult (SE). The combi train will be pulled by ’through going’ locomotives, guaranteeing a transit time of only 15 hours.

The new combi train Älmhult will strengthen the presence of Samskip Van Dieren Multimodal in the Swedish market. The wholly-owned subsidiary of Samskip is already operating daily shuttle trains to and from Helsingborg, Göteborg, Nässjö and Katrineholm. The combi trains are able to carry Huckepack (mega) trailers, as well as 45 ft (curtain sided) containers. An in-house trucking operation takes care of all pre- and on-carriage of loaded units.

Samskip Van Dieren Multimodal has been offering rail services between Scandinavia and the continent since 2003, introducing the first ‘through going’ locomotive operation on the routes in 2008. Linehaul services for the new train to and from Älmhult are being provided by Hector Rail.

In combination with its existing rail shuttles from and to Göteborg, Helsingborg, Nässjö and Katrineholm, Samskip Van Dieren Multimodal operates a total of 42 rail shuttles per week, making it one of the leading intermodal service providers to and from Sweden.
