Record Number of Seafarers on Siport21 Training Programs

Siport21’s Simulation Center has received 171 seafarers last year, who have developed Training Programs in the Real-Time Bridge Simulator. This number represents a record for the company since its foundation.

The 171 seafarers were from 16 different nationalities, from European countries to India. Moreover, they belong to the crew of 18 shipping and maritime agency companies: BP Shipping, Knutsen OAS España, Northern Marine Management, Teekay, Shell, MOL, Vships, Kline, Exmar, Pronav, Wilhelmsem, Balèaria, Höegh, Azalea, Gaslog, Dynagas, SCF Unicom and Ras Gas. Also, pilots of the Port of Castellon (Spain), Palma de Mallorca
(Spain), Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Spain), A Coruña (Spain), Sines (Portugal), Rio Parana (Argentina) and Rio de La Plata (Argentina) have manoeuvered in Siport21’s Simulation Center.

The Training Programs of Siport21 are developed to training seafarers in specific situations, using vessels where they usually sail –it has developed more than 40 models of vessels- and specific ports selected by the client. For Pilot training, they have maneuvered vessels normally calling their own port or new vessels which have been assessed for future access.To this aim, it is necessary to collect a series of data about the ship and the port
selected in order to create a reliable simulation and achieve total immersion within the Real-Time Bridge Simulator.

Siport21 Real-Time Simulator Center is DNV approved, (Det Norske Veritas), for the execution of port designs studies (port approach of vessels manoeuvring under different physical and environmental conditions for the adequate layout design of the port, the approach channel and the manoeuvring zones). The certificate is also valid for Pilots, Captains and Officers education and training, either in a basic level or for specialised,
advanced or retraining courses.

This year, as a new activity, Siport21 has extended its Training Programmes for providing courses of Maritime Resource Management (MRM). The aim of these courses is to minimize the risk of incidents by encouraging safe and responsible behavior. The courses meet the requirements laid down in the IMO International Convention on Standards of Training Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCWS), celebrated in 1978.
