Oscar Campaign Hoping to Aid Cancer Research

Op-Ed by Phil Parry

Since 2012 the shipping industry has rallied behind the Oscar Campaign, run by a board of well-known industry names. Shipping donors initially raised half a million pounds to fund a new seas and oceans floor at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. We are now raising another million pounds to fund research of the kind that saved Oscar Parry, the Campaign's namesake. We hope to raise over £100,000 on 16th September by hosting the first London Shipping Dragon Boat Race.

In 2003 my son Oscar was diagnosed with acute leukaemia. After 3 years of chemotherapy he was diagnosed with an even more aggressive leukaemia – by complete coincidence. After two bone marrow transplants and several terrible weeks on life support Oscar was treated with the first ever stem cell transplant carried out on a child in the UK. This was an experiment that saved his life. This treatment and other new treatments are being developed every single day at Great Ormond Street and are saving children's lives all over the world. This is crucial work that shipping is helping to make possible.

Please sponsor the Spinnaker Dragon Boat Team on 16th September. You can do this by visiting our justgiving site.

Thanks to the treatment Oscar has come out the other side happy, healthy and a lovely young man. Please sponsor us and save more children like Oscar.

If you'd like to join our generous event sponsors The Liberian Registry, please send me an email to me at [email protected]

Thank you for your consideration.
