Frigstad Engineering Ltd is pleased to announce that it has secured a contract with a subsidiary of SapuraKencana Petroleum Bhd to provide detail engineering services for the construction of “KM-3”, a semi-submersible tender assisted drilling unit of the Frigstad T70TM design developed by Frigstad Engineering Ltd. Having already delivered the basic design package for this project earlier in 2012, Frigstad Engineering has now been awarded a contract for a complete detailed design package.

The major part of the detailed engineering work will be carried out by Frigstad Engineering’s team in Singapore in close co-operation with the owner and the building yard in Malaysia.

The Frigstad T70 TM semi-submersible tender assisted drilling unit is the largest of its kind with a displacement of approximately 30.000 dwt. The drilling unit is equipped with three large cranes, incl. one 400T crane able to lift the drilling equipment set (DES) in predesigned modules on to offshore jackets. Furthermore, the unit is equipped with integrated mooring systems, telescopic gangway and a portable, purpose-built mud treatment module which can be utilized at the DES location or on the tender unit. The key operational benefits of the design are increase mud capacity, extra large deck space, internal purpose-built handling and operating areas as well as an extreme reduction in weather- and sea state dependency. The Frigstad T70TM drilling unit is designed with a 160 men modern living quarter with strong focus on comfort and high safety standards.

Øystein Bondevik, Managing Director of Frigstad Engineering in Norway, comments on the contract award: “We are very pleased that SapuraKencana has shown confidence in Frigstad Engineering as a turnkey rig designer by awarding us the detail engineering contract. This Frigstad T70 rig will be in the very top range of its kind in terms of operational efficiency, performance and comfortable conditions for personnel working onboard.”
