STX Finland Secures $420 Million Deal for Well Intervention Vessels
South Korean shipbuilding giant, STX, has announced that their European Finnish unit has clenched a US$420 million (300 Euro) contract for two well intervention vessels with Eide Marine Semi AS of Norway.
The 31,000-ton, 122-meters length, and 45-meters wide well intervention ships are estimated for delivery by 2013, STX Finland Oy says. Work on the ships’ first hull will be underway at STX Rauma shipyard in April of 2012, with construction of the second hull to start in June.

The behemoth-sized vessels are designed for operation in rough sea conditions for service of oil and gas fields off the continental shelf of Brazil. The ships also have large deck areas and innovative designed hull forms that secure high sea keeping characteristics together with DP3 dynamic positioning systems.
The Korea Herald quoted STX Finland’s chief operating officer, Timo Suistio , as saying that this contract for Eide Marine Services is an extremely important project for STX Finland, showing their strategic plan for expansion of their products and service portfolio. Suistio added that their plight to improve their global competiveness and presence has been successful, in the midst of the very challenging outfitting work project
