Keppel Under Probe For Unpaid Wages
Keppel Shipyard, a subsidiary of Keppel Corporation Ltd , is being probed by Singapore's Ministry of Manpower (MOM) over claims that its sub-contractor owes wages to its workers.
The Straits Times reported on Monday how 120 shipyard workers hired by Akash Engineering and Technology, the sub-contractor, almost went on strike last month. They said their employer had not paid them salaries of up to 3-1/2 months.
"Keppel Shipyard is also being investigated by MOM for possible infringement of its responsibilities as a sponsoring shipyard under the marine sector scheme," the MOM said.
