Crowley Adds 457 New Refrigerated Containers to Fleet to Better Serve Liner Services Customers

(JACKSONVILLE, Fla.; June 21, 2006) Crowley Maritime Corporation's liner services group is enhancing its equipment fleet with 457 new 40-foot, high-cube refrigerated containers (reefers) and 380 power packs (gensets). The reefers were received in early June in Jacksonville, Fla., and Savannah, Ga., for deployment in the company's Latin America, Caribbean and Puerto Rico services, to meet increased customer demand.

"We are responding to the needs of our customers by making the necessary investments to allow them to be successful with their perishables shipments," said Tom Crowley, Jr., chairman, president and CEO. "Refrigerated cargo is a large part of our business in both Central America and the Caribbean. Providing customers with clean, modern and reliable equipment is essential."

Charlie Dominguez, vice president of sales and marketing, Latin America services, agreed, saying "These state-of-the-art, stainless-steel, high-security reefers will enhance our fleet for the upcoming season, giving our customers greater opportunities to ship their fresh and frozen commodities, safely and securely. Combining this new equipment with our multiple, weekly, fixed-day sailings, is another aspect of our 'Speed to Market' service in the Caribbean and Latin America."

All 457 refrigerated containers were manufactured in China by "MCI" (Maersk Container Industri AS). Two hundred and twenty eight are equipped with ThermoKing refrigeration units and 229 are equipped with Carrier refrigeration units. Fifty of the new generator sets are a nose-mount design and 330 are a chassis-mount underslung design, so as to accommodate our various shipper's needs.
