The U.S. Coast Guard and its agency partners are working hard to bring ports back online in the wake of Hurricane Isaias, and they are getting quick results. The storm made landfall near Destin, Florida on Friday night as a Category 2 hurricane, weakening fast as it moved inland. Diesel Deal Increases Pressure on Putin’s Ports and Shipping

Published Oct 11, 2026 6:21 PM by The Maritime Executive

The deal over supply of diesel between Presidents Trump and Putin this week has generated huge controversy. But from the perspective of the maritime community, the results could turn out rather differently than expected – giving the Russians more of what they have enough of already, namely money, and requiring them to ship to the United States what they are short of, namely diesel. Morocco Cancels Concession Tender for Casablanca Shipyard

Morocco’s National Ports Agency (ANP) has reportedly cancelled the concession tender for Casablanca shipyard. ANP had launched the tender process in April last year seeking a private operator to upgrade and operate the yard for 30 years. Preliminary results for the tender were expected in July 2025. This was later delayed, with ANP saying the winner would be announced in August 2026, then delayed again until December 31. Now, after the 18-month delay, ANP has decided to cancel the tender...

Investigating the Hidden Costs of World’s Farmed Seafood

For nearly a decade, the Outlaw Ocean Project, the non-profit journalistic organization that I founded, has produced high-impact investigative stories about lawlessness at sea and the variety of threats posed to the people and biodiversity of a space that covers two thirds of our planet. The oceans bear a heavy and largely invisible burden. The public usually takes it for granted, a forever self-replenishing resource that we use to fill our stomachs or line our wallets. Our journalism intends to...
