Today, on the House floor, the FY ‘17 Energy & Water Development (E&WD) Appropriations bill failed after an amendment related to Federal contractor discrimination against gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender people was offered and then blocked.

WCI President/CEO Michael J. Toohey issued the following statement:

“We are disappointed to see the failure on the House floor of the FY ’17 Energy & Water Development (E&WD) Appropriations bill that funds programs of the Army Corps of Engineers.  We were very pleased to see an attempt to return to regular order for the appropriations process, whereby individual bills are passed.  Both the Senate-passed FY ’17 E&WD appropriations bill, and the House bill, recommended strong funding levels for the Corps’ important work to ensure reliability on the inland waterways transportation system.  With so many lock and dam infrastructure needs, it is our hope that the House can return to this bill and strike compromise with a better outcome.”
