Sailors’ Society, one of the largest seafarer support charities, will celebrate the work of seafarers around the world on 24 September with its Signal Your Support event for World Maritime Day.

World Maritime Day is a dedicated day in the last week of September when the International Maritime Organization celebrates the maritime sector. This year’s theme is maritime education and training, which is one of Sailors’ Society’s key mission statements.

Sailors’ Society is asking companies to encourage their staff to dress in the colors of their countries’ national ensign flag - so for the United Kingdom that’s red, white and blue - and donate to the Society’s various education projects.

Director of program, Sandra Welch, said, ‘It is fantastic that everyone is getting on board and signaling their support. With your help we are able to contribute to a thriving seafaring workforce by enabling access to education.’

A donation of £5/US$8 from everyone taking part in Signal Your Support will help to transform the  lives of seafarers and their families through our education projects. Sailors’ Society is encouraging donors to take a group photo and tag @sailorssociety on Twitter, using #signalyoursupport.

With 90 per cent of everything coming by sea, the Signal Your Support event is a good way to thank seafarers for the sacrifices they make to enable us to live the way we do.
