Hug Engineering’s SCR Selective Catalytic Emission Reduction System has reached the stringent new IMO emissions certification on the main engines for Tier III on Amels 188 series. The successful test under independent Lloyd’s Register class supervision ensures the main engine of the new 57.70 meter superyacht will comply with IMO Tier III NOx emission limits. In December 2015, the generator sets have already been IMO Tier III certified.

“This is another milestone for us with regards to getting the IMO Tier III certification of our nauticleanTM. We appreciate the trust in our products and services by our partner, the Dutch leading superyacht builder Amels. “explains Project Manager Elizabeth Rahman of Dutch Hug Partner SootTech.

In this project the main and auxiliary engines have reached the IMO Tier III certification. Additionally, the generator sets are equipped with the nauticleanTM active diesel particulate filter.

Tier III, the next stage of the United Nations IMO NOx emissions regulations, applies to vessels operating in North American and the United States Caribbean Sea NOx Emission control Areas (ECAs). Additional areas are expected to be designated NOx ECAs in the future. In order to meet these stringent NOx Reduction Regulations of approx. 80% of Tier II with state of the art technology, additional Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) Systems are inevitable. At Hug Engineering AG, further NOx emission reduction certification tests are being performed worldwide and are expected to fulfill the IMO Tier III certification in the near future.
