CLIO Offshore Tooling Packages in Action

CLIO Offshore

Published Aug 28, 2016 7:00 PM by The Maritime Executive

The biggest challenge for offshore projects at this time is the expense and availability of equipment. CLIO Offshore’s equipment has been honed by Odyssey Marine Exploration over the past 20 years so it is tested, proven and we are able to work with clients to provide services for fair and competitive rates.

“Physical challenges in the industry include weather and depth restrictions,” says Andrew Craig, Director of Marine Operations. Our equipment is rated to 6,000 meters and we’ve successfully conducted many deep-ocean projects around the world so we are able to work in a variety of environments.

CLIO Offshore offers a variety of different survey, ROV and recovery tooling packages for projects down to 6,000 meters. The equipment is containerized, so it can mobilize to a client’s vessel or the company can source cost-effective vessels of opportunity to meet project requirements.

In addition to providing solutions with our offshore team and technology, we also can provide services ranging from desktop studies to marine asset procurement, mobilizations, and reporting, says Craig.  “CLIO primarily provides specific survey and recovery solutions, but can also be a turn-key solution offshore.  A key advantage offered by CLIO is the opportunity to contract our experienced and qualified technical crew that has been working together for over 12 years on various deep-ocean challenges.”

Technology continues to rapidly advance, allowing us to be able survey larger areas more efficiently and work at greater depths. Oil and gas and submarine telecommunications are two of the larger markets. Offshore mineral exploration is a very promising and emerging market that CLIO and Odyssey Marine Exploration has experience in and can provide services for these types of projects.

CLIO’s Main Tooling Packages

A 6,000 meter deep tow survey system that allows for the simultaneous collection of multibeam, side-scan and sub-bottom profiling data.

•    Self-contained system in 3 x 20 foot containers
•    Full resolution multibeam with real-time data acquisition 200Khz and 400Khz
•    Optional side-scan, sub bottom and magnetometer data collection from the same vehicle
•    Precision positioning reducing repeatable error of datasets, no USBL vessel requirement
•    6,000m depth capability (tracked and operated to 5,000m)

CLIO – ROV

A 6,000m ROV configured to perform precision survey work or light work-class ROV intervention tasks.

•    Turnkey solution offered to cover project survey and navigation requirements
•    Equipped with advanced survey sensor suite and acoustic positioning as standard
•    Light work-class system with good payload and room to integrate any third-party equipment package
•    Through frame lift of 100kg

ZEUS I & II – ROVs

A heavy duty ROVs equipped with advanced acoustic positioning equipment and survey sensor packages and flyaway LARS package.

•    Proven track record over 12 years of operations worldwide in a variety of different operations
•    Due to size and horsepower the system is very stable in all subsea conditions
•    Turnkey solution offered to cover project survey and navigation requirements
•    Equipped with advanced survey sensor suite and acoustic positioning as standard
•    Convertible from neutrally buoyant ROV to negatively buoyant tracked trencher
•    Heavy work-class system with massive payload and room to integrate any third-party equipment package
•    Through frame lift of 2,000kg
•    2,500m depth capability

ROV Actuated Hydraulic Tools

A suite of hydraulic cutting tools used for remote decommissioning or salvage to be conducted in a surgically accurate fashion.  Specialist tools are coupled to an active heave compensated winch with Dyneema rope and then positioned and actuated by a WROV.

•    Shear: 800 ton force with the ability to cut through two inches of solid steel or 12” beams to prepare deck plates and beams for removal.
•    Deck Plate Remover: Custom designed for precisely removing thick steel deck, one piece at a time with 1,200 ton crushing force capabilities.
•    Grab: Custom designed tines for removal of bulk cargo which is tightly packed together.
